An educational NMOS model has VT = 1 V and k = 2 mA/V². VGS is 2 V, source is ground, supply is 5 V, and drain resistor is 4.7 kΩ. Start with the saturation equation, then test its region condition. The goal is to identify a model error before treating a number as a result.
What should you do after the saturation equation predicts ID = 1 mA and VDS = 0.3 V?
The saturation condition is VDS ≥ VGS − VT = 1 V. Predicted VDS = 0.3 V violates it. VGS above threshold alone does not establish saturation; β is the BJT parameter used in the preceding lesson.
